My Device
My Device is where you can view information about your Device and Network as well as change your device wallpaper, change your IP, view the leaderboards, and view the wiki.
Changing Your IP:
As soon as you start playing Hack Ex you are assigned a random static IP that is your identification in the game. Overtime your IP might get too exposed and you could become more vulnerable to persistent hackers. Generating a new IP removes you from their radars and gives you a new identity. Also, any viruses plaguing your device on your old IP will be removed, giving you a clean slate if your Antivirus is unable to do so.
Changing Your Wallpaper:
With each device upgrade comes 2 new wallpapers to choose from. The Wallpaper feature in My Device simply lets you change it to whatever available wallpaper you have.
Leaderboards:
Leaderboards is where you can view the top hackers in Hack Ex. Selecting a row lets you view that player's card and badge. The ranking is determined by the Overall Score, which is the product of the player's Reputation and Level.
Apps
Apps is just that. Your apps. All your utility apps and viruses you plan to unleash are stored here. From here you can view information about any particular app as well as activity with your Virus Apps (Spam, Spyware, Antivirus).
List of Apps:
-Firewall
-Bypasser
-Password Encryptor
-Password Cracker
-Antivirus
-Spam
-Spyware
Downloading Apps:
One of the dark little secrets in Hack Ex is being able to download other player's apps. This doesn't remove the app from that user, merely it copies it to your device...you know...like downloading. When viewing another player's apps you will see the level comparisons to your current repertoire. You can select any app you wish to download and a Process will be added.
Uploading Viruses:
Viruses are what give Hackers a bad rep. In Hack Ex they are what give you some distinct advantages. There are currently 2 types of viruses (will be more in later versions) that can be uploaded, Spam and Spyware . Uploading viruses are the longest Processes in the game and the time can be significantly reduced by upgrading your Network .
The Log
The Log is where everything you do, all your activity in the game, is stored and displayed as an editable text file. Logs are a Hacker's best friend if they know how to use them and also their worst enemy if they don't. Removing your activity from other player's logs is vital to a successful hack and reduces the chances of that player finding you and getting their revenge.
Editing Logs:
Anyone can edit any Log. That's both a fun and scary thought. When editing your Log or another player's Log you can do anything you want. You can manipulate it, remove activity from it, give a personal message, or leave your Hacker calling card (if you're the type and good with ASCII).
Contacts
Contacts is where you can add and view your friends in the game. You can view your Contacts player cards as well as transfer Bitcoins to them from your Checking account.
Store
The Store is where you can purchase new Apps or upgrade your existing Apps as well as your Device and Network . All purchases from the Store are instant and there is no uploading or downloading Processes involved.
Bank Account
The Bank Account app is where your Bitcoins are stored and managed. The first part of the app is PNT Home Login screen. If accessing your own bank account you will have a pre-filled password field and be able to log in at anytime. When accessing another player's Bank Account the password field will be empty until you've been able to crack it. If you have a Password Cracker a "Crack" button will be shown next to the empty password field.
After logging in you'll enter the PNT Account screen. This is where you can view and manage your funds as well as deposit more.
Contents:
-Checking
-Secured Savings
-Transfer
-Deposit
-Checking
Checking is where all the Bitcoins you earn in the game first go. You must manually transfer any funds to your Secured Savings to avoid losing any of it to hackers. Your checking is the only account where Bitcoins can be stolen from and that you can transfer to other players.
Secured Savings:
Secured Savings is the safehouse for your precious Bitcoins. No funds in this account can be stolen or tampered with. The caveat is you have a Max Limit of how many Bitcoins you can store in your Secured Savings. This Max Limit increases every time you level up.
Transfer:
The Transfer screen is where you can transfer your Bitcoins from your checking to your savings when viewing your own Account. When viewing another player's account the Transfer screen allows your to transfer frunds from that player's Checking to your Checking.
Deposit:
The Deposit screen is where you can purchase more Bitcoins and store them in your Secured Savings. All purchased Bitcoins go into your Secured Savings regardless of your Max Limit.
Note: These are not real Bitcoins they are only for in-game use.
Scanning
The Scan app is where you find other player devices. Upon launching Scan it will immediately begin searching for random players, allowing you to refresh until you find a Firewall level you deem suitable to bypass. The device's that are found are devices of players who are in range of your level. For example, If you're a level 5 you are more likely to find players ranging from Level 3 - 7. A player's level is not to be mistaken by their Firewall level that shows up in the scan. You won't be able to find out the actual player's level until you have successfully bypassed their device.
Pinging:
Pinging a device allows you to search for any device by their IP. This could be a rogue IP you found in a Log or any other IP you know of that you're curious about.
Strategy:
Firewall levels lower than your Bypasser will be faster to hack and have a greater chance of success. Though a lower Firewall could also mean a less rewarding Hack as you may not get as much out of it. If you're willing to wait out the longer hacks and chance failing, higher level Firewalls could mean a better return.
Processes
Processes is probably the most important app in the game and the one you will likely visit the most. It's where you can watch the status of your hacks, downloads, and uploads as they are processed by your device. Each process has it's own time duration determined by a number of factors:
Is your Bypasser level higher than the Firewall level you are hacking? If so, then the process time is less. Contrary, if your Bypasser level is lower then the Firewall level, then the process time is more. Same applies with cracking passwords.
How fast is your Device ? This applies to hacking processes. The faster your in-game processor the less time all hacking process take.
How fast is your Network? This applies to downloading/uploading processes. The faster your in-game network the less time all downloading and uploading processes take.
How many running procceses are there? The more running processes you have the more time each one will take to finish.
The Processes screen is where you also access other player devices. You simply select the process after it was successful. At anytime while your hack is processing you can select the process and remove it or finish it immediately with Overclocks.
Contents:
-Overclocks
-Process Fail / Success
-Firewall Upgrades / IP Changes
-Your Phone's Local Clock
-Overclocks
Overclocking your processor allows things to simply process faster. At any point you can select a process and immediately finish it with Overclocks. Of course, longer processes require more overclocks. You earn overclocks as you level up but if you want more you can purchase them in the game.
1 OC is needed for every full 90 seconds (1.5 minutes)
Process Fail / Success:
All hacking processes have a varying likelihood of success. Similar to how a process hack duration is determined, if the Firewall level is higher than your Bypasser then you're going to have a less chance of success bypassing the device. Same applies to cracking a password. If the Password Encryption is higher than your Password Cracker there will be a less chance of success.
Successful cracking processes can be removed after they are completed (and successful) as they are no longer needed to access the bank account. Upload/Download processes also are no longer needed upon completion.
Firewall Upgrades / IP Changes:
There is an intended reason why you can't conveniently re-try a process when a user has upgraded their Firewall . This is to better reward and protect the player who upgraded their Firewall. It can be enough of a deterrent for some hacker's to dismiss that IP altogether and move on. Hacking is never "convenient". Think of it this way...when you upgrade your own Firewall you don't want it to be easy for a hacker to simply "Retry" hacking you again after you took the steps to better secure your device.
The reason why you can't retry a process when an IP has changed is obvious. That person generated a new IP to disappear from your radar. Simply having hackers able to constantly retry IP changes defeats the purpose of changing your IP. Basically your bypassing process was performed on their old IP and can't be aware of what the new IP is.
Your Phone's Local Clock:
Make sure your phone's local clock settings is always set to detect Date/Time and Timezone Automatically. Though you cannot manipulate or speed up a process's completion by manually adjusting your clock...as all completions are verified on the server, it will certainly affect how your process's progress duration
displays in the game.
